Working with the Department of Transport

The Department of Transport Victoria engaged She’s A Crowd to utilise their data and gender expertise to inform transport policies and planning.

Project Description: The Department of Transport was looking to improve their services to promote the safety of women and gender diverse people while travelling. However, they did not have a central platform to access the relevant data.

What did She’s A Crowd do? She’s A Crowd was brought on to create a central platform for the department to access this data regarding gendered violence.

Project milestones: We collected over 1000 geo-locative stories and provided Department of Transport with 12 months access to our data insights delivery dashboard and data insights report.

“We have engaged She’s A Crowd to improve the safety of women in Victoria, particularly regarding their safety while travelling. Having worked with She's A Crowd for over a year, I can attest to their passion and dedication to ending gender-based violence through technology.”

Nicola Fotheringham, Senior Advisor for Personal Safety, Department of Transport Victoria

She's Not Alone

She’s Not Alone is a collaborative short film about the everyday stories of ridesharing and gender-based violence between She’s A Crowd, Monash University’s Emerging Technologies Research Lab and ADM+S Centre. The film invites consideration of how lived experiences can help us to address the barriers of outsourcing trust and safety to automated systems - particularly within transport.

Exploring the gap

This event was an inquiry into data feminism, emerging data-driven technologies and the ways in which this can be harnessed to increase safety on transport.
